Can you freeze milk
standards/samples?
No. If frozen the samples will
coagulate and become useless. Store
standards in the fridge at 4°C
The standards are grainy. Can
they still be used?
No. The standards are now in need of
replacement.
How many samples can you expect
to test with a Dropper kit?
You can test between 70 & 80 samples
with a Dropper kit.
What is the shelf life of the
kits?
If unused, the kits will last
between 6 & 12 months if stored
correctly at 4°C.
If the kits have been used they will
last approx 2-3 months.
At what stage in the milking
process should the sample be taken?
The sample should be taken in the
middle of the milking process if
this is possible. If this is not
possible then the cow should have
had some expressed before the sample
is taken to allow the fore milk to
have passed.
I have been getting intermediate
results from my test. What does this
mean?
The cow could be coming into an
oestrus period. Sample again the
following day and see which way the
test is going.
The colour development on my test
is slow. What is causing this?
The test needs to develop in a warm
environment (16°C or above) A cold
environment will slow the whole
process.
